Planning Meeting One - first open meeting announced
Published by Rawdyn at 25-May-2011 08:13 in VolksTrek 2012

Hi All,

Well the ball is rolling. We have completed our initial planning meeting where we laid the foundation requirements and set a time and place for the first open planning meeting.

Our primary goal is to establish a route and timeline so others can start making plans. We expect to have this basically resolved at the next meeting (obviously there will be minor adjustments as planning progresses).

The trip will be broken into 7 legs and we plan to average 4 to 5 hours driving a day with a day off every 5 days or so. As we need to arrive in Valla for the VW Spectacular we will be working backwards from that date and adding in some lag time for mechanical and mental breakdowns.

Other discussions revolved around funding and the possibility of getting sponsorship by way of support. We have a list of corporates to approach such as RAC(V), BP, VWAG, Telstra and Apple. We will also be looking for more localised support in terms of mechanical help, accommodation, meals etc. Across the board we are not looking for financial assistance but rather product support. If anyone has any suggestions or is interested in promoting their buiness please get in touch. We do anticipate the trip will encounter some media attention so now is the time to get your sticker on the bus and be seen.

Meeting Two - June 11th

This will be an open meeting where anyone wishing to contribute can attend.

The primary goal is to nail down the route and timeline.
Secondary discussions will include sponsorship, vehicle preparation, accommodation amoungst other things.

If you want to join us you need to be at;

VolksTrek 2012
Published by Rawdyn at 22-Jun-2010 22:56 in General

After careful consideration of requests by prospective participants and the moths living in our wallet, we have elected to reschedule the VolksTrek trip to coincide with Valla in mid 2012.

This will mean we will travel from Melbourne to Adelaide, on to Perth, back to Adelaide, up to Sydney then to Valla and back to Melbourne.

We welcome participation on any leg of the trip or, if you are brave and can organise the time off work, the whole trip.

More information once we have finished this year's Splitty Calendar publication (in a few weeks then).

New Ferries are Coming
Published by Rawdyn at 06-Feb-2010 18:32 in General

The good news is the new ferries servicing the Spencer Gulf are due for delivery mid 2010.

This means our short-cut across the gulf is more than likely.

More info is on www.seasa.com.au.

Welcome to VolksTrek™ - an Introduction
Published by Rawdyn at 29-Jan-2010 19:40 in General

Welcome to the VolksTrek Blog.

VolksTrek is a venue for us to organise what we hope to become semi-regular treks planned throughout Australia in our air-cooled Volkswagens.

Anyone is welcome to join us and we encourage participation at all levels.

Myself and my wife travell in Granny. She is a 1958 Kombi which we have had for a couple of years now. While she has been to Sydney and back this will definitely be her biggest trip yet.

This is us on our way to the Nationals in 2009

Subscribe to get alerted to any new posts we make and feel free to drop us a line with any questions, coments or input.
